Feng Shui Decorating – Yin And Yang

Energy. Some of us don’t give it a lot of thought, but many others believe that harmony in a home can be greatly affected by positive and negative energy. The Chinese, for example, believe in Chi energy, or “cosmic breath.” There is ying and yang, bad energy or good, and a person decorates accordingly. Feng Shui decorating grew out of this belief.

Feng Shui is a system of decorating which tries to maintain a smoothly flowing positive energy throughout a home decoration scheme. There are several decorating steps you can take to make your home more compatible with Feng Shui. First, get rid of clutter by unblocking the house of bad decorations. Followers of Feng Shui believe that doing so also gets rid of bad energy. The corner diagonal to the door of a room is key in Feng Shui decorating.

The kitchen, says Feng Shui beliefs, is the room most susceptible to negative energy, so keep it clean and counters cleared. Strategically decorated tabletops attract good Chi.

The bedroom is also crucial. Keep it decorated clutter-free and let in the light.

The way you decorate a space can also affect its Chi. Tune into a room’s energy by pacing it clockwise, near the walls. Decorate rooms with the right paint shades and a few plants, which bring in color and are symbols of life. Take care with decorating pieces such as artwork. While it may be a beautiful art decoration, it can stagnate. Changing decorations from time to time is helpful.

Feng Shui principles are simple decoration techniques that can give a home a more positive feel.
